My trip to Dubai

IMG_1623I’ve always had an interest in Dubai. I think it stemmed from when I first heard about the plans to build ‘The World’ and ‘The Palm’. Two man-made islands from scratch just fascinated me. How much money can a country have that they can build their own islands to reflect the worlds countries and a palm tree. Incredible.

So when I got the opportunity to go on holiday to Dubai it was a very quick and easy “Yes!!”. Three months later and we were on board our Virgin Atlantic flight ready for 9 hours of babies screaming, snoring and misery. Only made achievable by the fact we knew we’d be in heaven at the end of it.

My first impressions of Dubai did not disappoint, luxury, blue skies, great service, friendly people and the hot hot sun!! A great start.

We stayed on ‘The Palm’ at the Sofitel Resort and it was truly incredible! I would highly recommend this hotel and we are already looking to book to return. We had such an amazing experience from the moment we arrived to the moment we left that even when some things did go wrong, as they inevitably do, the staff more than made up for it.

We had the common concerns regarding alcohol and what we could or couldn’t do, but once we we settled at the hotel it was more than clear that it was fine to buy drinks and alcohol within the hotels. Phew!!

We didn’t just go to see the hotel though, we wanted to move around a little bit so straight away booked ourselves on the following:

  • Burj Khalifa
  • Dubai Mall
  • Dubai Fountains
  • Aquaventure Water Park
  • 4×4 buggies on the Sand dunes
  • Arabian evening in the desert

What Dubai lacks in historical culture, it more than makes up for in luxury, service and tourist attractions. You really do get the best of both, the ability to stay in a very luxurious hotel and never leave if that’s what you want, or the ability to do something different every day!
